  • STRETCH CODE
    • The Stretch code defines building codes to minimize energy use in homes, apartments and commercial buildings
    • The town of Boxborough adopted the Stretch Code in 2020 and voted to become a Green Community in 2023. 
    • Boxborough is one of over 300 communities in MA to adopt the Stretch Code
    • As a Green community, Boxborough just received its first Mass-DOER grant to implement energy conservation initiatives at the Blanchard School.

  • SPECIALIZED STRETCH CODE
    • The specialized code is an extension of the Stretch code and focuses on accelerated adoption of  green house gas emissions from buildings
    • Applies primarily to new construction homes, multi-family dwellings, commercial and public facilities

    • Lower life-time cost of building ownership
    • Lower Green house gas emissions
    • By adopting Specialized Stretch Code, Boxborough becomes a Climate Leader Community and becomes eligible for state grants
