Why an assessment of your home and energy systems?

  1. Do you want to get rid of energy inefficiencies in your home, cold drafts, moisture, or mold?
  2. Improve temperature control?
  3. Insulate against noise?
  4. Address problems with ice dams and other structural concerns?
  5. Are you concerned about your home  contributing to allergies, asthma, or heat-related health issues?
  6. Are your energy bills higher than you like? Do you sense energy and comfort are being wasted, but you don't know where or what to do about it?

An LELD or MassSave Home Energy Assessment (HEA) can help with all those. And it is at no cost to you!

All Boxborough residents, as customers of LELD, qualify for a no-cost Home Energy Assessment.  This is true for all homeowners and renters.  Littleton Electric has arranged to have these energy evaluations done by Energy New England.  For more information, visit the Energy New England website here; or contact Energy New England by phone (888) 772-4242, or by sending an email to solutions@ene.org

If you heat your home with natural gas, you are probably a National Grid customer and can choose to do your home energy assessment through Mass Save which will qualify you for their programs. Call 1-866-527-SAVE (7283) for more information about MassSave Home Energy Assessments or go to their website here.

Due to COVID-19, LELD and  Mass Save may offer Virtual Home Energy Assessments or in-home assessments. You can click the Deep Dive tab above for more info. You can check your MassSave Home Energy Assessment eligibility here

For the assessment, a professional energy adviser will evaluate your home and provide a detailed report of its energy usage, potential energy-efficiency improvements, and achievable energy savings. The assessment will evaluate a broad range of energy-saving opportunities in the home including appliances, windows and doors, insulation, heating/cooling, and lighting. Recommendations may consist of adding insulation, weatherstripping, updating HVAC, and the like, as well as assessing effectiveness of appliances and water sonsumption. The entire visit usually takes about 1-1 1/2 hours to complete.  LELD Energy assessments are good for 3 years (2 years for MassSave). If you get an LELD assessment, and then make home renovations and improvements and want to remeasure, you can arrange for a follow-up evaluation.

LELD Rebates!

In order to qualify for Littleton Electric rebates for sustainable actions such as weatherization, insulation, air sealing, or converting fossil fueled systems to electric systems you must first have completed a home energy assessment. Doing an energy assessment prior to making these changes will provide professional advice, establish a baseline, and make you eligible for any possible incentives.  LELD rebates for heating and cooling systems, appliances, and equipment do not need to be assessed prior.

Mass Save Rebates!

A MassSave Energy Assessment will qualify you for incentives including for air-sealing; insulation; rebates on qualifying energy-efficient equipment upgrades; no-cost LED light bulbs; showerheads and power strips (sent to your home) if the assessment identifies those; and a 0% loan program for financing HVAC and energy-efficiency measures. Best of all, the cost of approved insulation and other weatherization/electrification actions may be generously incentivized by Mass Save.

If you live in a condo, the MassSave organization assigns condo assessments to Multifamily Market Integrator. Call them at 1-800-594-7277 or sign-up here.

Why is it no-cost to me?

As an LELD or National Grid customer, you have already been paying into this program through your utility bill, so it’s worthwhile to take advantage of it. Thanks to the Green Communities Act of 2008, Massachusetts utilities and energy-efficiency service providers are required by the state to provide energy-efficiency programs.

What does a home energy assessment entail?

A customized energy report tailored specifically to your home.

I had one of these a while ago. Can I have one again?

If you have not had your home assessed in the last two years, you can have it done again. It may be time to improve your insulation or check out technologies like smart thermostats. Incentives for retrofits may have changed as well.
